About the Instructor

Kristina Behler is a self-taught fiber artist and weaver enthusiast. She is always on the lookout for discarded furniture, frames, and textiles which she collects, and eventually, someday in the near or distant future, will do something with. She was a Digital Creative Director in her past professional life, and welcomes creating without a screen in sight. Much of her work incorporates textile waste and other discarded materials. The use of textile waste not only adds texture and character but also highlights the potential for creativity in recycling and repurposing materials that are often considered waste. Creative approaches to upcycling, particularly discarded garments through weaving, have been in practice around the world for a long time. Sustainability practices have been led for generations by BIPOC communities globally. She respects and is continually learning from these long-standing, innovative, and resourceful practices in managing waste streams.
