Looking for a way to recycle your old pill bottles?
We’ve partnered with a local volunteer to collect pill bottles for a California-based business. All of Cocoplum’s creations start with recycled pill bottles–collected, shredded, and remade into something beautiful and useful. From sunglasses to coasters, every piece is designed to bring joy and keep plastic in circulation and out of landfills.
Accepted Items
- Translucent Rx bottles
- orange, green blue, or red
- #5 plastic (polypropylene)
- remove labels and black-out personal information
Not Accepted
- Opaque pill bottles
- i.e. ibuprofen bottles
What Happens to the Waste?
The bottles are collected and sent to Cocoplum, who turns them into sunglasses and coasters. The polyamide lenses are made from 39% bio-based raw materials that come from agricultural and wood industry waste, and they’re manufactured in a facility that uses 100% renewable electricity. These sustainable practices reduce the carbon footprint by up to 50% compared to traditional lenses. The lenses have also been certified by European Commission accredited certification system, REDCert.
