Shop ethically and empower young women building new futures in rural Kenya.
Grocery bags and greeting cards handcrafted in Waitaluk, Kenya, will be on display during this week-long pop-in. Each item is created by a resilient young woman in the tailoring program at Neema Project. Each purchase empowers her to build savings that she will use to launch a micro-business and help her family rise out of extreme poverty.
About the products: Grocery bags are sustainably handmade from upcycled cement bags and local kitenge fabrics. Each bag is fully lined with an inner pocket and double handles for shoulder or hand carrying. Greeting cards are created by students from locally sourced kitenge fabrics and paper goods.
Students at Neema have been forced to leave school due to extreme poverty, cultural expectations for women, personal hardship, and early parenthood. Neema Project equips young women in rural Kenya with skills training, trauma counseling, and spiritual support—igniting hope, empowering dignified pathways out of poverty, and transforming entire communities.
Neema’s Executive Director is Gaëlle Beltran-Grémaud, a Wynnewood local, world traveller, and longtime advocate for sustainability and women’s empowerment.
