Give your garden a midsummer boost with locally made compost that feeds your soil naturally.
Mother Compost’s nutrient-rich compost is made from food scraps collected right here in our community and composted through our local processing partnership with Kitchen Harvest at Linvilla Orchards. This closed-loop system diverts organic waste from landfills while returning valuable nutrients to the soil, helping support healthier gardens and a more sustainable local food system.
Mother Compost is bringing fresh batches of compost to SHIFT for limited seasonal runs throughout the year:
Summer: June 23 – July 5
Fall: September 22 – October 4
Note: Compost is available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
Why add compost now?
Summer can be tough on your soil. Compost helps your garden stay healthy and productive by:

How much compost?
Coverage per 5-gallon bag:
- ~8 sq ft with a 1″ top dressing
- ~4 sq ft with a 2″ application
Which depth to use:
- 1″ if you regularly amend or fertilize your soil
- 2″ if your soil hasn’t been amended in a while or needs rebuilding
Quick way to calculate:
Measure your garden bed (length × width = square feet), then:
- Divide by 8 for a 1″ layer
- Divide by 4 for a 2″ layer
