Farewell From Eleisha

I’ve been wrestling with the idea of purpose lately. I have a feeling a lot of you have probably searched for your own in some way or another. Society often places overwhelming pressure to find a single, grand calling. But I’ve recently come to believe that purpose finds us, again and again. That there’s no need to go looking for it, and no need to worry that yours won’t be fulfilled.

When I first moved to the area 10 years ago, I was searching for a grand purpose. I moved into a 200-year-old stone barn with my family, where I learned the building techniques of past generations, their connection to the earth, and the low-waste lifestyle they led. As restorations began, I had a strong desire to share my newfound knowledge with others. I longed for a community that might be willing to reconsider convenience culture for a return to simple, non-toxic products that didn’t harm our lands, seas, and bodies. I hoped there were others that wanted to help heal and preserve the world for future generations.

In my search, I found Kimberley giving a low-waste lecture at the Narberth Library. I was relieved to find someone else who shared a similar passion for our planet. Even now, I’m in awe of the synchronicity that led us to eventually create SHIFT. That chance encounter brought our paths together and allowed us to build something beautiful.

Now the time has come for us to forge ahead on separate journeys. Rest assured, Kimberley will continue SHIFT’s purpose-driven mission of making sustainable living more accessible, while helping our local community flourish. And though I’ll no longer be involved with SHIFT, I will always cherish our time together.

Getting to meet all of you these past five years, learning about your challenges, helping you overcome them, and watching you change the way you live in support of a bigger goal has been such an honor. I’m deeply grateful when I think of the years we have spent witnessing each other’s existence while successfully diverting over 85,000 single-use containers from landfill. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for allowing me to work alongside you.

I’ve spent the first half of my life tilling the soil and planting seeds across many seasons and in many separate fields. I’m not sure what’s on the horizon, but I’m excited to see where purpose finds me next.
